Hideki, a Japanese-inspired bar and restaurant on Burnett Lane, is the brainchild of co-owners Joe Chagoury and Wasim Ghanem, who were inspired to open the venue by their ardent love for Japan’s cuisine and culture. After extensive travels, the duo sought a unique, intimate location to bring their vision to life. They found it in the former Alba Bar & Deli space, which they transformed into a versatile venue blending high-end restaurant, edgy bar, and casual yakitori joint elements. Designed by Wasim’s partner, Sophia Klemenz Ghanem, the space features eye-catching details like antique artwork, black concrete countertops, and a grid-like light installation. The ‘fine casual’ menu showcases Japanese favourites, from sashimi and yakitori to miso-marinated toothfish and wagyu sirloin, complemented by a curated selection of high-end whiskies, sakes, and inventive cocktails. The name ‘hideki’, meaning excellence and radiance in Japanese, reflects the owners’ commitment to perfection in service and food. Plans for expansion include a second location on James Street in April, offering a contrasting light and outdoor garden experience to the Burnett Lane venue’s darker, intimate vibe.
