The developers of a controversial new apartment complex on the site of the old Newmarket brickworks have reached out to Brisbane residents to help the company preserve and celebrate some of the areaās history.

Brickworks Park, which will eventually boast more than 280 apartments, will rise up from what was land zoned light industrial following the closure of the brickworks in 1987.
The key feature of the new development will be preservation of the original 55-metre brickworks chimney stack, a prominent feature of Brisbaneās inner north.
Developer CDL Australia says it wants to contact people who remember some of the stories of the operation of the brickworks so these can be incorporated into the new community via āinterpretive signageā.
The companyās Director of Residential, John Bush, said CDL has placed āconsiderable emphasisā on trying to conserving the historic elements of the site.
āThe iconic chimney of the former brick kilns willĀ be front and centre of this new neighbourhood, which will also includeĀ expansiveĀ green open spaces and the introduction ofĀ more thanĀ 15,000 trees and native plants,ā he said.
āWe are encouraging Brisbane locals who have a connection to the formerĀ āBrisbane BrickĀ and Builders Supply Company Ltdā ā either themselves orĀ through family members that once worked thereĀ ā to get inĀ touch and helpĀ us keep this history alive for future generations.ā
He said the company already had plans to are-use some rare bricks made at the brickworks and recently salvaged from a demolition at Fortitude Valley.
The brickworks site has an industry history spanning more than 100 years, with the distinctive chimney long ago included in the Queensland Heritage Register.
