Construction is underway at one of the Palaszczuk Government’s signature urban renewal projects, which will eventually be home to about 3000 people on a site just 8km from the Brisbane CBD.

The $850 million Yeerongpilly Green, to be spread across 14 hectares on a site next to the Queensland Tennis Centre and a rail station, has touted by successive state governments as an example of so-called “transit oriented development”.
The project, first put forward by the former Newman government in 2014, is located on site of the old Animal Research Institute, which vacated the site a decade ago.

Its master plan, released in 2019, envisages about 28,000 square metres of commercial space and nearly 9000 square metres of retail and dining on a riverside site with good public transport and cycle links to the city.
Deputy Premier Steven Miles turned the first sod on the initial stage of the project, an 83-apartment development anchored by a Woolworths retail centre.
“Projects such as Yeerongpilly Green Riverside help address land supply challenges, catering for Queensland’s booming population whilst creating local jobs,” he said.
The boss of developer Consolidate Properties, Don O’Rorke, said it would combine “premium homes” with good shopping and public transport.
The first stage of the development is expected to be completed in 2023.
