Stalked and murdered: LGBTQ community rocked by domestic violence killing
The former partner of a 21-year-old man who died in a Gold Coast house fire will face a hearing on murder charges at his hospital bedside today, in another shocking alleged domestic violence killing.
Adam Marriott was found dead in a northern Gold Coast home last Wednesday night after a fire at the Coomera home of his 38-year-old ex-partner Glen Tipler.
Tipler remains under police guard in the Royal Brisbane and Womenās Hospital in Herston with what police said were significant burns. It is alleged he deliberately lit the house fire that caused Marriottās death.
Tipler was late Tuesday charged with murdering Marriott. The murder charges, along with arson and unlawful stalking charges against Tipler, will be heard at a bedside hearing today.
āIt will be alleged that around 11pm, a fire was deliberately lit at a Leichardt Street residence causing the death of a 21-year-old Coomera man,ā a police spokesperson said.
The LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation said Marriottās alleged murder showed anyone could be a victim of domestic violence, with the case sending shock through the community.

Emergency services were called to a Coomera house fire last Wednesday after neighbours reported thick smoke billowing from the townhouse windows. Firefighters discovered Marriottās burned body inside in the living room.
It is alleged that about an hour later, Tipler arrived at a work colleagueās home in Redlands, suffering significant burns to his face and limbs and asking for help.

The friend called an ambulance and Tipler was āsubsequently taken into police custody,ā police said.
On Tuesday afternoon, Queensland Police charged Tipler with murder, arson and stalking offences.
Earlier on Tuesday, family held a memorial service for Marriott, a talented artist, in his hometown of Wyong on the NSW Central Coast.
