It’s where more than 1000 people sick with Covid are cooped up with those caring for them but it turns out that Queensland’s hospitals are among the least likely places to contract the virus.

The reason? Masks, according to the state’s acting chief health officer, Dr Peter Aitken.
He said that while authorities were not sure exactly when the current Covid wave would peak, what was certain was that there had been “almost zero” Covid transmission in state hospitals.
“In many ways, it’s safer in hospitals because people are all wearing masks – in the community, people aren’t wearing masks, at Bunnings and Woolworths,” he said.
“That’s the real message we want to get out there – get your masks on and minimise the risk of transmission.”
However, he continued to insists that “at this stage” there was no mandate on the agenda to require people to wear masks.
Queensland recorded 11,687 new cases in the last 24 hours, as well as another 10 Covid-related deaths.
There are 1,034 people in the state’s hospitals due to Covid, with 21 in intensive care.
Queensland now has more than 61,151 active Covid cases.
