Director of La Boite Courtney Stewart steps up to answer InQueensland Summer Reading’s 10 Questions.

What’s the most exciting thing that came out of 2022 for you?
My move back to Brisbane to take on the role of Artistic Director and CEO of La Boite.
What’s your favourite summer memory?
I love the holidays, Summer has always seemed to generously stretch on forever. I have a lot of memories of hanging out with my sister and camping in our backyard and being around our extended family. It’s always a time to recharge and reconnect.
Are you a summer or a winter person?
Oh both! I love all seasons, and the changing of the seasons are really important markers for me, and help me keep things steady and moving intentionally forward in my mind.
How do you stay resilient during periods of change, like the year just gone?
I thrive on rhythm and routine – I can be incredibly resilient and flexible within that overarching structure. I know when I’m feeling wobbly it’s because I need to reconnect with rhythm and routine.
Who were your heroes of 2022?
Robbie Smith! So many people have supported me in stepping into this role – too many to name them all. There are so many heroes in the world!
What’s your secret ambition?
To buy a house in a seemingly impossible time to do so!
What’s your favourite holiday spot?
I love Tallebudgera and the Gold Coast generally – I grew up going to the beach every weekend with my Dad, so I love spending time in the water.
What are you hoping for in 2023?
I am hoping to keep on top of my mental strength and tenacity in 2023 – It’s been challenged this year so looking forward to using the break to come back into next year steadier and in more control.
What have you been watching on television/streaming services lately?
The White Lotus season 2 was so great! And Hot Ones by First We Feast.
Any people or businesses to watch in 2023?
YES! Tessa Leong, Nithya Nagarajan, Anne-Louise Sarks and Kate Champion are just some of the people to watch next year as they head into their first seasons/programs as newly appointed artistic directors. They have incredible creative visions and I find them personally inspiring and exciting to be around!
