A man has died after falling from an e-scooter “at speed” in the early hours of Friday in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

Multiple paramedics responded to reports of a “serious fall” on the corner of Alfred Street and Barry Parade around 3:30am on Friday. Witnesses said the man “clipped a gutter” and was thrown off his scooter, crashing into a concrete kerb
“It appears this patient had been travelling on the scooter at speed,” said High Acuity Response Unit Officer James Wylie from the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS).
“Unfortunately when we arrived, the patient was in cardiac arrest.”
Police believe the rider was travelling south along Barry Parade when he fell. Queensland Police said the rider’s companions gave immediate first aid before paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man, but he could not be revived.
Mr Wylie said QAS had recently responded to several e-scooter-related incidents involving both riders and pedestrians.
“When hiring these scooters I would advise people to take the appropriate precautions, definitely wear a helmet when available and make sure you obey the road rules,” he said.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and police have called for witnesses, including passing motorists and anyone with dashcam and CCTV footage to come forward.
