A man has been charged with murder a week after the body of a self-employed father of two was found by his former partner in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Emergency services were called to Mount Tamborine after midday on June 29 and found a 37-year-old man with fatal injuries to his head and upper body.
Homicide detectives on Thursday charged a Paradise Point man, 36, with one count of murder.
The victim has been identified as father-of-two Matthew Berry, 37, who was found by his former partner last Thursday. He had been beaten to death. Police said they believed the accused was known to the victim.
The dead man’s partner, Edwina Berry, appeared at a police press conference seeking help in solving the murder. She described Mr Berry as a “loving father. son, brother, friend and incredible partner”.
“My husband didn’t deserve any of this and I’m asking anyone with information to please come forward and help police with their investigation,” she said.
“I just want justice for all of our family and friends and most of all, our two little girls,” she said.
Police Detective Inspector Chris Knight said Mr Berry had suffered a brutal death.
“When first responders arrived, it was very clear there had been violence inflicted on the gentleman,” Inspector Knight said.
“His former partner went to the address, and was unfortunately confronted with that scene, she contacted triple-0.
“She was there to check on his welfare, hadn’t heard from him for a couple of days, but she’s a grieving lady.
“She spent quite a number of hours with detectives, and is assisting us greatly.
“(They) were still in contact, they still had a relationship.”
The accused is expected to face the Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.
