Former Liberal MP dies after cancer battle
A life spent “caring for others”: a former Federal Liberal MP has died after a battle with cancer, aged 59 years.
Former Liberal MP Katie Allen has died following a battle with cancer, aged 59.
Dr Allenâs family announced the death in a social media post, with two of her daughters writing messages of love in the comments.
âShe spent her life caring for others as a mother, doctor, professor, MP and friend. She is deeply loved,â Tuesdayâs post said.
âShe passed in peace surrounded by family and lived a full, beautiful life, all the way to the end.
Dr Allen represented the Melbourne seat of Higgins from 2019 to 2022, entering politics after being a paediatrician and medical researcher for more than two decades.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Dr Allen dedicated herself to making Australia a better place.
âHeartfelt condolences to the family, loved ones and friends of Dr Katie Allen. Katie believed deeply in serving her community, her nation and her fellow Australians. She dedicated her life, her talents and her courage to making our nation a better place. May she rest in eternal peace,â he said on X.
Liberal senator Jane Hume, a former party room colleague of Dr Allenâs, said she was an extraordinary woman.

While former Liberal senator Simon Birmingham said his memories with Dr Allen were a true blessing.
âKatie my friend, my Canberra housemate, my fellow political warrior, and a true servant of the people, may you rest in peace,â he wrote.
âAll our love to Malcolm and all of Katieâs wonderful, loving and supportive family.â
